100 Holes - One Day

Friday 26th June 2009
A century has passed since the formation of Northamptonshire County Golf Club.
To mark this historic occasion, four very enthusiastic and ever so slightly deranged members of the Golf Club
will attempt to complete 100 holes of golf in One Day. The format for this golfing extravaganza will be
fourballstroke play. On 26th June, Roy Martyniak, Mark Jennings, Phil Smith and Ian Wilson accompanied by
their event co-ordinator Kev Austin will tee-off at first light in their attempt to achieve what promises
to be an eventful albeit rather lengthy game of golf.

In recognition of the Captains charities for the Centenary Year any monies raised
from this event will be donated to KidsAid and the CYSTIC FIBROSIS TRUST.

PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY

Woodpecker Golf Society

10th Anniversary

Some 10 years ago, a small group of golfers who regularly played in 2 or 3 groups discussed the possibility of forming a golf society, with the idea of arranging a few golf matches followed by dinner and a good ‘craic’.

In June 1999, thirteen members formed a society known only as the ‘No Name’ Golf Society and on Friday 16th July 1999 played their first event for the ‘Salver Trophy’, won by Mr. N. Preston.

Following that meeting, numerous society names were suggested eventually agreeing upon the title of ‘Woodpecker Golf Society’ with Mr. N. Barltrop acting as our first Captain.

After 40+ events including four Captain weekend tours, we continue to look at ways of enjoying the society. Therefore to mark our 10th Anniversary, we plan to hold a golfing ‘away day’ with the Salver Trophy meeting being played during the afternoon round.

The venue chosen is Frilford Heath Golf Club, Abingdon, Nr. Oxford OX13 5NW (approx. 1 hour by car). Frilford is a Heathland course formed in 1908, with 54 holes of golf. Full details are available on www.frilfordheath.co.uk

Agenda:

  • Friday 17th July 2009
  • Coffee on arrival
  • am - 9 or 18 holes - Blue Course (competition to be confirmed)
  • Lunch - Soup & Sandwiches
  • pm - 18 holes - Red Course (Salver Trophy)
  • 3 course dinner (Jacket & Tie)

The cost will be £45 per person, which includes 27 or 36 holes, light lunch, dinner and prizes, the remainder of the cost will be subsidised from society funds for this special event. We are also looking at the possibility of arranging a minibus/small coach (tbc) for the day, for those who would like to enjoy a drink or two !!

We hope you will be able to support this special event and ask for earliest confirmation.
